Beethoven plus Fesival 2026 - DIALOGUE of forms

BartolomeyBittmann - progressive strings. Following the great success of their last award-winning album z e h n (German Record Critics' Award), BartolomeyBittmann's new programme "Best of BB" focuses on the essence of their compositional work to date. In the four programmes created since then, the progressive duo's original compositions have thrived on strong emotional contrasts: Meridian (2013) - finding a unifying line, a musical path. Neubau (2015) - the idea of creation in joint composition. Dynamo (2019) - the dramatic element in music and performance. z e h n (2022) - the continuity and support of a philosophy. The focus is always on the search for the acoustic foundation of their classical instruments. Our programmes this summer see themselves as a series of such conversations - between epochs, handwriting and sound concepts, between individual voice and common form.

Can a game with your feet make you laugh or move you to tears? Yes, it can! Hugo's suicide attempts after the death of his secretly beloved tightrope walker turn into clown acts. No wonder, with a circus clown. His subsequent sentimental journey through the world leads to encounters with dogs, children, prostitutes and lovers - but above all to an encounter with himself.

Beethoven plus Festival 2026 - DIALOGUE OF PERSPECTIVES

    Barrier-free

This concert puts listening itself up for discussion. Different voices, different traditions and different historical contexts enter into a multi-layered dialogue - between chamber music and song, between the established canon and perspectives that have long been overlooked. The result is a programme that not only presents different works, but also deliberately interweaves perspectives: between eras, cultural backgrounds and aesthetic approaches. The dialogue takes place on several levels - between voice and instrument, between past and present, between the familiar and the newly discovered. A concert as an invitation to listen to music from different perspectives - and to rediscover their connections. The musicians of the Lyatoshynsky Trio, soprano Lana Hartmann and her piano accompanist Alexander Baier, will perform three works for you, three forms of expression - and yet one common origin: the idea that music is language.

    Novella by Arthur Schnitzler

It reads Ksch. Franz Robert Wagner

    At the piano: Johannes Daxner

The code of honour of the Austro-Hungarian army is relentless. A desperate situation - Gustl's head is in chaos. An inner monologue, a dialogue with himself, you are immediately immersed in his world of thoughts, in which naivety and egocentricity, clichés and authenticity, panic and hope are mixed. Like Hamlet's "To be or not to be", Leutnant Gustl is a matter of life or death, a decision to commit suicide. On the morning before his suicide, he learns of the sudden death of his adversary. He decides to go on living as if nothing had happened.

Songs by Clara Schumann and Johannes Brahms.
With Reinhard Mayr, bass and Bernhard Pötsch, piano.
    Moderation: Adelheid Picha

The musical couple Clara and Robert Schumann were among the most important personalities in 19th century music. Clara herself was an outstanding pianist and composer who decisively influenced and disseminated her husband's work. In 1853, the 20-year-old Johannes Brahms came to Robert and Clara Schumann's house as a piano and composition pupil. A close friendship developed. When Robert Schumann died in 1856, Johannes was at Clara's side as a faithful friend. The artistic and friendly relationship between the famous pianist Clara, who was fourteen years older, and the increasingly successful Brahms lasted until Clara's death.

End time - Eichmann's last days of war

    Film, music, language

The stage play combines contemporary film sequences, live music and spoken word to create an impressive work of remembrance culture. Film designer Gerald Singer processes excerpts from "Eichmann's Last Days of War" into a cinematic work of art about the chaos of war, the Holocaust and the collapse of the Nazi regime in Ausseerland.

Musically, experimental electronic music, harp, klezmer, jazz, folk music and the Altaussee church choir come together. Adelheid Picha and Franz Robert Wagner lead through the piece as chroniclers with distinctive voices.

The focus is on Ausseerland at the end of the war in 1945 - a retreat for the Nazi elite, a storage site for stolen art, a place of resistance and the scene of chaos, flight and uncertainty.

LOEW. THE LIFE OF A JEWISH FAMILY.

Book presentation with David and Paul Gulda

"Loew" is a fascinating weave of world history and personal family biography. David Gulda leads the reader through two centuries and through half of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. Monarchy, via Italy to South America and back. With the help of carefully researched facts and fictional elements, he unfolds the story of a Jewish family caught between tradition and increasing secularisation. Political upheavals, religious issues and musical influences are interwoven into a multi-layered overall picture. The text is a sensitive portrait that is both informative and entertaining without being preachy - a work for anyone interested in Jewish history, culture and human destinies.

The friendship with you is the most important human relationship I have and wherever our paths cross, it will be a celebration..." writes Ingeborg Bachmann to Hans Werner Henze. This relationship is the longest in Bachmann's life, standing for security and home in a biography characterised by storms, ruptures and perpetual departure. Whenever music played a role in Ingeborg Bachmann's life, it became a celebration, especially through the connection to Henze. It wrapped itself protectively around her as an invisible framework of sound.

"Our singer's name is Josefine. He who has not heard her does not know the power of song." These words begin the last story Franz Kafka wrote during his lifetime. The text tells of the people of the mice and their ambivalent relationship with the singer Josefine, who enriches the monotonous everyday life of the mice with her singing. At the same time, in its reflection on the relationship between artists and audience, the text also deals with Kafka's own self-image as an author and fundamental questions about the significance of art for our social coexistence, which are still highly topical today.

Beethoven plus Festival 2026 - DIALOGUE OF VOICES

Johannes Brahms - A German Requiem. Out of a strong individual human experience, but without remaining trapped in it, his music grew from purely musical circumstances to impressive greatness. Simple, more drawing than colouring and above all free of literary ties, Brahms' personality and art have a strong force in the objective, in the general. As an integral part of the concert literature, his German Requiem is considered one of the highlights of Brahms's creative art and one of the most important works in the concert repertoire. Condemned as academic, epigonal and formalistic, Brahms was regarded as a traditionalist by the "expressive" and "future" musicians of his time. He was considered backward because he did not smash things up, but sought to preserve and increase what already existed. He renewed these possessions through the great artistic ideas of the past in a sense that pointed far into the future, thereby lending his art lasting topicality.
